It was mating season when I visited this colony of Chinstrap penguins—with one lone Marconi mixed in the bunch. We were the first ship out to Antarctica that season, breaking ice and surviving hurricane winds, to make it to the mainland of the ice continent. Volunteering opportunities in Antarctica include counting penguins for research.
